Your Sun sign: your sense of self

Your Sun sign is the zodiac sign occupied by the Sun at your birth. It is the placement most people mean when they ask for your star sign. Astrologically, it is associated with identity, purpose and the qualities you learn to express with confidence.

Date ranges in magazines are approximate. The Sun enters a new sign at a specific instant, which varies by year and local time zone. If you were born close to a sign change, use your birth details rather than assuming a generic calendar cutoff gives your sign.

Your Moon sign: your emotional world

The Moon sign is associated with instinctive responses, private needs and sources of comfort. It may describe what you reach for when a day feels overwhelming, or the atmosphere that helps you settle.

The Moon moves through the zodiac much faster than the Sun, spending roughly two to three days in a sign. Your birth time can therefore matter for the Moon as well as your rising sign. If it changed signs on your birth date, a date-only calculation cannot tell you which of the two is yours.

Your rising sign: how you meet the world

Your rising sign is the sign crossing the eastern horizon at your birth place and time. It is also called the ascendant. In readings, it is connected to first impressions, your approach to new experiences and how you move into unfamiliar settings.

The rising sign changes throughout the day, often around every two hours, though the timing varies with location and sign. A remembered “sometime in the morning” is not enough to establish it reliably. Your birthplace matters because the horizon depends on where you are on Earth.

How the three work together

Imagine someone with an Aries Sun, Cancer Moon and Libra rising. In astrological language, initiative may be important to their identity, emotional safety may be a private need, and consideration for other people may shape how they first approach a situation. None of these themes has to cancel the others out.

Try reading each placement separately, then ask where they cooperate or create tension in your own experience. Keep the interpretations that help you reflect and leave room for your choices, circumstances and growth. No three placements capture an entire person.

Calculate your big three with the right details

Use your full birth date, the local clock time and the city where you were born. Our calculator applies the selected location’s time zone and asks you to resolve a repeated clock hour when necessary.

If you do not know the time, select the unknown-time option. You will receive a partial reading with possible sign changes clearly marked, and no invented rising sign. If you later find a reliable birth record, return to calculate a fuller chart.
