Why time and place matter
The ascendant is the eastern intersection of the horizon and ecliptic. Both the local time and the location determine it. A date-only lookup cannot establish your rising sign, and an approximate two-hour sign timetable is not reliable for every latitude.
Use the time as recorded
Enter the local clock time on the birth record. The calculator applies the selected city’s time zone. If clocks moved back and the time occurred twice, choose the correct occurrence. If a time did not exist because clocks moved forward, the calculator asks you to check it.
What to do next
Use your result to explore whole-sign houses or compare the Sun, Moon and rising signs. If you cannot find a birth time, create a partial birth chart rather than guessing an ascendant.
